How Circular Design is using digital expertise to build a movement for food security in Gaza
At Circular Design, we believe that technology combined with human empathy and commitment is best placed to tackle global crises and urgent needs. Today, we’re excited to share a project that embodies this belief: the Gaza Food Project.
Why We’re Doing This
Since we began, Circular Design has maintained its commitment to supporting grassroots organisations working on the frontlines of social and environmental justice. We’ve reinvested 100% of our profits into these causes, provided employment opportunities for refugee professionals, and built impactful digital infrastructure for mission-driven organisations.
But in the face of war and genocide in Gaza, we’ve also been asking ourselves: How can we do more?
The answer came from combining what we know best – web design, digital strategy, and online fundraising – with the humanitarian expertise many of us gained working in the charity sector before founding Circular Design. The Gaza Food Project represents this synthesis: a focused, digitally-driven campaign to address an urgent crisis.
The Crisis We’re Addressing
Amid the uncertain promises of the current ceasefire, Gaza is experiencing a catastrophic humanitarian emergency. Families are facing acute food insecurity, with limited access to basic necessities. While the scale can feel overwhelming, grassroots organisations on the ground are making a tangible difference – they just need resources to continue their vital work.
That’s where the Gaza Food Project comes in.
Our Approach: Digital Skills for Real-World Impact
We’ve built a dedicated platform at gazafoodproject.com that does three critical things:
- Mobilises volunteers through an international network of poster activists
- Makes giving simple via QR codes on posters connected to our streamlined, transparent donation platform
- Builds a movement by engaging individuals, cafes, businesses and volunteers who want to contribute
This approach leverages everything we’ve learned at Circular Design about creating effective digital experiences for social impact.
Part of Something Bigger
The Gaza Food Project sits alongside our broader social impact work at Circular Design:
- Impact Grants: We continue reinvesting profits into grassroots causes working on human rights and climate justice
- Employment Justice: Over 50% of our team are refugee designers and developers, creating pathways into the tech industry
- Accessible Design: Our websites meet high accessibility standards, ensuring digital inclusion
- Sustainable Web Development: All our sites are carbon-negative and hosted on renewable energy
Each initiative reflects our belief that business should serve communities, not extract from them. That’s why we’re called ‘Circular’ Design after all.
Building a Movement Together
This is just the beginning. The Gaza Food Project works because it’s movement – dozens of people contributing skills, resources, and energy to multiply impact.
We’re actively looking for:
- Partner Organisations in Gaza: Grassroots groups doing food relief work in Gaza
- Cafes, Bars & Businesses: Venues willing to display our posters, host a fundraising event or make a direct donation
- Volunteers: People with skills in social media, community organising, or event planning
- Poster Activists: Individuals and groups ready to print and distribute our posters
Why This Matters to Circular Design
Some might ask: why is a web design agency launching a humanitarian campaign?
The answer is simple: because we can.
We have the technical skills to build effective digital infrastructure. We have experience in nonprofit fundraising and campaigning. We have a platform and a community. And we have a responsibility to use these assets for more than just our own growth.
The Gaza Food Project is what happens when a social enterprise asks not just “How do we grow our business?” but “How do we leverage our capabilities for maximum social good?”
